2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X Still a Great SUV

The new 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X continues its tradition and without disappointment, very tough when it comes to off-roading, offering excellent quality of performance and capability.

A few days ago we had the opportunity to experience for a week this new edition of the AT4X that this year has a base price of 77,500 dollars, which goes up to 80,010 dollars with the options included in this unit that we tested, including the expenses of destination.

The 2023 AT4X comes with the same engine as the previous year, a 6.2-liter Ecotec3 V8 with Dynamic Fuel Management, which works in tandem with a 10-speed automatic transmission that offers smooth and quick shifts. This engine continues to deliver 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

Like the 2022 model, GMC’s new truck comes with the same strong chassis and packs the features that make off-roading easy and enjoyable, including a factory raised suspension, exclusive Multimatic DSSV spool valve shocks, and springs . also exclusive, which together increase maximum front suspension travel by 50mm and rear by 25mm.

It also includes front and rear electronic locking differentials, skid plates and all-terrain tires.

The new Sierra AT4X can tow up to 8,900 pounds and carry a payload of up to 1,420 pounds—great capabilities to use on the job.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) this new AT4X offers 14 miles per gallon of gasoline in the city, 17 on the highway and a combined city / highway of 15 miles per gallon of gasoline.

The exterior presents no changes compared to the previous model, the style remains intact with its prominent front part where its large glossy black grill with nickel inserts stands out, not at all aerodynamic and one of the impediments to better fuel economy, but leaving aside from the above, it is a beautiful grill, which inserts aggressiveness into this wonderful front.

In addition, they continue to highlight the design of their front LED lights, part of their classic animated lighting, which along with other lights on the truck turn on when one approaches the truck, when we start the engine and when we move away from the truck, all through the sensors combined with the digital key. Also notable on its front are the two bright red tow hooks at the bottom.

The AT4X’s exterior is differentiated from its smaller sister, the ATX, and from other Sierra trim levels by exclusive and unique badging seen on different parts of the truck. The unit we tested is Cayenne Red.

As standard the AT4X includes the MultiPro cargo bed tailgate with 6 different modes: Regular, Load Stop, Second Level Load, Standing Work Station, Easy Load Access and Raise/Lower Bed Access to through steps.

Also included via an option package is 18-inch gloss black aluminum-alloy wheels with LT75/65R18 Goodyear Wrangler off-road tires.

The interior of the Sierra AT4X features a comfortable and functional layout, with plenty of room for passengers and cargo. Its seats are comfortable and well padded, the front ones are electrically adjustable and have heating and ventilation. The second row of seats is also comfortable and offers plenty of legroom for passengers.

The predominant interior color is what GMC calls Obsidian Rush, a color that was introduced on the 2022 model. As I said at the time, this is a very attractive color that adds value in terms of great cabin styling.

Overall, the interior of the GMC Sierra AT4X is roomy, comfortable, and full of advanced features that enhance the driving experience and make the truck safer and more efficient. It is a high-quality interior with several elements that, despite being an off-road truck, give it a luxurious look.

Also and like the previous model, the driver and front passenger seats include 16-way electric massagers. All seats, like the steering wheel, are upholstered in full-grain leather with double stitching in white and also in red. All include heating and ventilation front. The rear seatback is 60/40 foldable and also includes storage spaces to transport cargo.

The GMC Premium Infotainment infotainment system is complemented by a 13.4-inch color touchscreen. This system is still very intuitive and easy to operate.

The infotainment system is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which can be connected wirelessly. In addition, it integrates Google services, including the Google Assistant, Google Play and Maps. Also standard includes a 15-inch HUD (Head Up Display) screen, with trip information reflected on the windshield, above the steering wheel.

The audio system is a Bose Premium with 12 speakers, which offer superior sound.

As for the safety and driver assistance systems, it includes:

GMC Pro-Safety with the following systems:

  • Automatic emergency brakes
  • forward collision alert
  • Automatic braking for pedestrians (Front)
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Alert
  • following distance indicator

Other systems included as standard:

  • Trailer Zone Blind Spot Alert

This 2023 model, like the previous model , remains a formidable SUV, with the added bonus of being a truck that can be used for work and other activities.

Both in the city and on the highway it offers a smooth and quiet ride. In addition, on long journeys on the highway, it is very comfortable, with great seats, including the rear ones. Also a great help to the serenity and quiet of the ride are its optional 18-inch wheels.

Off-road it continues to display an optimized suspension that filters out ground imperfections very well.

In short, this 2023 model only confirms how great this SUV is.

Overall, the new 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X is a capable and well-equipped off-road pickup that offers impressive performance and functionality. Its rugged construction, advanced features and powerful engine make this truck an excellent choice for those who need a vehicle for rough terrain and heavy loads, as well as use it to enjoy weekend trips with the family.
